Black Forest (2025–2026)

An environmental artwork made of young pines that have been pruned and left standing in place. The trunks are tarred and charred, and drilled with holes to provide microhabitats for insects. Low fences were built from the cut branches.

The work is part of a restoration project on a worked-out gravel pit. Removing the dense pine saplings opens the ground to sun and sand again, creating conditions for a sun-exposed habitat and its species to colonise the site. The treated trunks are expected to remain standing there, gradually decaying and providing deadwood habitat.

The outcome is not fixed. The work's final form depends on seasonal cycles, weather and the species that colonise the site.
